Tameside
Artist: Michael Lacey
Archive: Tameside Local Studies & Archive Centre
Project: Photographic collection, transport committees and boards from predecessor authorities.
This work, which will be realised as a vinyl covering permanently affixed to the outer windows of Tameside Local Studies & Archive Centre, presents a broad overview of the archive’s contents around the central themes of the people of Tameside and their lives and histories, particularly focused on images of movement – protest marches, public transport and other vehicles.
It was produced by using Tameside’s online image archive to source images which were then printed and coloured by hand using ink and watercolour – at the time of writing the piece consists of around 125 of these separate pieces: men, women and children, cars, vans, trains, trams, buses, bicycles, banners, marches, and a selection of Tameside’s 300+ listed buildings.
