Project: The Peterloo-Amritsar Massacre Parallel
My project based at Archives + Manchester Central Library, draws comparisons between the events of the Peterloo Massacre of 1819 and the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre of 1919. Hopefully making Peterloo more inclusive and of interest to diverse cultures such as the south Asian community of the United Kingdom.
My aim was to create a contemporary proletariat party concept for 2019 from the similarities of the plight of both east and west cultures. Manufacture modern union style Banners and Armbands in the colours of Peterloo and Amritsar flags, garments and protest banners.
Create a song inspired by the Archives+ and perform live at the Peterloo 2019 commemoration at Manchester Central with musicians from working class and diverse cultural backgrounds. If budget allows then to record the song and release on Spotify.
Make available the project process through text, images and audio on website www.aziz.co.uk, Pinterest and any other opportunities available e.g. 1. my ACE project, Project72 Arts Council Project, 2. Lancashire Creative Industries panel and Discussion on Textiles and Protest 2019.
