House of Commons, Votes and Proceedings, 15th May 1821.
A petition of Thomas Blinstone, of Manchester, Blacksmith, aged 74 years was presented, and read; setting forth, that the petitioner attend the meeting at St Peter’s Field on the 16th of August 1819, and was standing near Mr Brown’s garden wall before the Cavalry arrived on the ground; that on the approach of the Cavalry one of them rode over the petitioner, trampling him down, and many others following him, also trod upon and bruised him so, that both his arms were broken, his head dreadfully wounded, and his body very ill bruised; that the petitioner was taken off the ground in an insensible state to the Manchester Infirmary, where he remained for about nine weeks; that in consequence of these wounds and bruises the petitioner has not yet been able to follow his employment, and believes he never will again be able to do any work, his arms having been imperfectly set, so that he can make very little use of them; that these misfortunes have reduced the petitioner to very great distress, and not knowing where else to apply for redress for the injuries he has so unjustly sustained, humbly petitions that the House will take his lamentable case into consideration, and afford him the means of obtaining redress for the injuries he sustained, and also, that the House will institute a Parliamentary investigation into the outrages and murders on that dreadful day.
