Petition of James Harrison of Manchester House of Commons, Votes and Proceedings, 15 May 1821

A Petition of James Harrison,of Manchester,in the County of Lancaster,was presented, and read;setting forth, That the Petitioner was at the Meeting hed in Manchester on the 16th of August 1819;the Petitioner had not been long at the Meeting before the Yeomanry Cavalry rode most furiously amongst the people assembled, and cut down with their sabres all that they could reach, and rode down others; the Petitioner attempted to leave the Meeting, but this he was not allowed to do, for one of the Yeomanry gave the Petitioner a severe stab in his right side with a sabre, which brought the Petitioner to the ground; the Petitioner was then trampled on by the Cavalry Horses, which bruised and lacerated the body of the Petitioner so severely that he was not able to move, and the Petitioner was carried off the ground; the Petitioner, in consequence of the injuries he sustained,was confined to his room for two months, and the Petitioner is yet in a debilitated state; the Petitioner humbly prays, That the House will be pleased to instituted an inquiry into the transactions which took place at the aforesaid Meeting
