Joseph Barrett, examined by Mr. Hunt—Resides at Newton Heath, where he is a manufacturer; employing from 100 to 200 men. Had a warehouse in the Market Place at Manchester. Accompanied the last witness to the meeting. Saw no alarm created by the proceedings of the day. Was near enough to hear Mr. Hunt’s address to the multitude. Saw no confusion or alarm till after the arrival of the Yeomanry. Did not hear Mr. Hunt say to the people of the military—”There are your enemies; if they molest you, put them down, having them down.” Must have heard these words if they had been used.
