A Petition of John Thompson, of Manchester, in the County of Lancaster, was presented, and read; setting forth, That the Petitioner, while attending the Meeting held in Manchester on the 16th of August 1819, at which Meeting the utmost peace and good order prevailed, the Petitioner was violently assailed by the Yeomanry Cavalry, who cut indiscriminately all they came at; amongst others the Petitioner received several heavy blows from their sabres, which bruised the Petitioner in several parts of the body, and one severe cut from a sabre across the hand, which completely disabled the Petitioner for ten weeks, and the Petitioner is yet in a debilitated state from the injuries received; the Petitioner humbly prays, That the House will be pleased to institute an inquiry into the transactions which took place on the afore-mentioned occasion.
