(No. 626.)
A Petition of John Kershaw, of Royton Lane, in the township of Royton, and County of Lancaster, was presented, and read; setting forth, That the Petitioner attended a public Meeting, which was convened at Manchester, on the 16th of August 1819, for the purpose of taking into consideration the propriety of petitioning the Legislature upon the subject of Parliamentary Reform; that the Petitioner saw the Soldiers ride amongst the people, and the Petitioner was thrown down by the pressure of the crowd, and got the collarbone of his neck broken, and was so crushed that he was three months before he could abide to lie on one side; that the people conducted themselves in the most peaceful and orderly manner; that the Petitioner has often reflected with grief and astonishment that no person has been prosecuted for the murderous havock that was made amongst His Majesty’s most faithful subjects on the said day; he therefore most humbly prays, That the House will be so condescending as to institute an inquiry into the proceedings which took place on the said 16th of August 1819, at Manchester.
