A Petition of Ann Whitaker, of Manchester, in the County of Lancaster, was presented, and read; setting forth, That the Petitioner was present at the Meeting held on St. Peter’s Field, in Manchester, on the 16th of August, 1819, at which Meeting the utmost good order prevailed, when the Yeomanry Cavalry made a desperate attack upon the people, riding over and cutting at all within their reach; the Petitioner was one amongst many others who was thrown down by the Cavalry; the Petitioner was dreadfully trampled upon, and had three ribs broken, and her right arm so crushed that the Petitioner has never since recovered the perfect use of it; that the Petitioner was taken in a coach to the Infirmary; she was entirely disabled for the space of eight months, and is still in a weakly state; the Petitioner humbly prays, That the House would be pleased to cause an inquiry to be made into the transactions which took place on the above-stated occasion.
