The Parliamentary Archives and the History of Parliament Trust invite you to a special event marking the bicentenary of the Peterloo Massacre and the opening of an exhibition on ‘Parliament & Peterloo’.
‘Remembering Peterloo: protest, satire and reform’ will examine the latest research on Peterloo with a panel of three leading scholars.
Dr Robert Poole, University of Central Lancashire, will discuss Peterloo and its political context; Professor Ian Haywood, University of Roehampton, will consider Peterloo and its place in nineteenth-century caricature and satire; and Dr Katrina Navickas, University of Hertfordshire, will reflect on the political legacy of Peterloo.
There will be opportunities for wider discussion between panellists and the audience.
Please note that you will have to go through airport-style security to gain entrance. We recommend arriving at least 20 minutes before the start of the event. At busy times there is often a queue.
A free exhibition ‘Parliament & Peterloo’ will be on public display in Westminster Hall between 4 July and 26 September 2019. Attendees are welcome to view the exhibition either before or after the event.
